Assalamualaikum wbt, hye guys.. 

This is our project. This project called "Geodesic Dome". There is 6 elements of production our geodesic dome. 

 

1. INTENTION

 

- To design a sustainable geodesic dome.

- Make dome that can withstand the weather

- To make the dome more durable, comfortable and efficient

- Make the dome more economically available to a greater number of people.

 

2. ACTORS 

 

Our team members is from the different major. All the members playing their own actor as a architech, building technology, Interior Design, Quantity Surveyor, Construction management, Building Surveyor and Planning very well. They also provide full cooperation. Alhamdulillah, congrats guys.. hehehe

3. SITE

4. RULES / LAW

 

- The dome must be zero cost or minimum cost 

- Can be carriable by 3 persons

- Can accommodate 5 peoples inside the dome

- Able to withstand any type of weather condition

- The material must have the characteristic of sustainability which that it  can be recyclable

- The dome should be asembled in 30 minutes on 1 October 2014 from  11:00a.m. until 11:30 a.m. with the ability to have a lifespan of 1 month.

 

 

5. ACT

 

Introduction            

 

A geodesic dome is a spherical or partial-spherical shell structure or lattice shell based on a network of great circles (geodesics) on the surface of a sphere. The geodesics intersect to form triangular elements that have local triangular rigidity and also distribute the stress across the structure. When completed to form a complete sphere, it is a geodesic sphere.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Methods of Construction

 

1. Firstly, we have come into a conclusion to construct geodesic by using timber and specifically bamboo. We finalized the design and keep changing the details by discussion among the members.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2. We made the geodesic dome by using recycle material. Our main material is bamboo. Each of individual bamboo we used is less than 2 inch diameter. A unit of bamboo is around 3 ft. in length. These individual bamboo were connected by rope. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

3. We produced six main pentagon to build the geodesic. Each of the pentagon was connected to each other by the used motorcycle tube we found in motorcycles shops. The wall of the structures were made of used canvas, cardboards (used boxes) and used plastic as a main cover. We made into decision to used plastic and canvas since both of the materials are waterproof.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

4. Our structure is equipped with a door for person to come in, a corner of transparent roof which allows natural light to penetrate and there are two small porthole windows at the upper side of one of the wall which acts as ventilation structure; provides the interior to fresh air and cooling environment.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

6. PRODUCT

 Alhamdulillah, our dome is suceed in pressure. But, because of we have a door and windows we failed in  weather test..  Senior purposely spray water from the windows and door. As a conclusion, constructing geodesic dome is not an easy task. It requires a lot of patients, time and also energy to build one. Everybody was so committed and try to make this structure stands. Getting everyone is also not easy but we made it. 

We understand to erect a simple structure is not easy and this assignment actually gave us the opportunity to understand what is built environment. Creating a sustainable design is not a slogan now but it has to be translated into actions, the same as this work... AND THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS WE HAVING FUN with the colours !!!
